the Nested Set data model

I just wanted to mention, at least briefly, an interesting article I read in November/December about using the Nested Set Model (NSM) in MySQL. NSM is database structure/schema that can be used to store hierarchical data (think categories, sub-categories, sub-sub-categories, etc). Creating, updating and deleting data stored in the NSM is a tad more complicated, but the real power of NSM becomes apparent when you realize how you can pull complex hierarchical data from the model in a single query.

For those interested, here is the article I read on the MySQL web site.
